This course offers an engaging learning experience for self-studying students and classroom-based teachers and students alike. The program addresses basic Spanish knowledge for 9th and 10th grade students and is a continuation of Spanish 1A. Our course teaches standard Spanish, suitable for all the Spanish speaking world. This course is aligned to the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) standards and provides students with opportunities to utilize and refine the four essential communications skills: writing, reading, speaking and listening.
Alignment: ACTFL Standards
Target Audience: High School Students
Key strategies employed to support students in achieving learning outcomes include:
- Listing lesson objectives in precise and measurable terms at the start of each lesson.
- Each lesson has been designed with illustrated content, extension and portfolio activities that require students to synthesize and apply the Spanish knowledge they have learned.
- An interactive glossary of Spanish vocabulary and grammar terms for each lesson, as well as cultural videos about Spanish-speaking countries.
- Exercises for students to practice newly learned skills with immediate targeted feedback that allows them to assess their performance. Branching pathways are activated, if needed, based on student response and/or performance.
- The course is designed for one semester of classroom instruction.
- The time to complete the course depends on how well a student progresses through the activities. Instructors can customize the course to meet school scheduling needs.
